Two PhD students from CEITEC BUT, Ing. Lenka Drotárová and Ing. Tereza Havlíková, have emerged as winners in the prestigious 2024 JCMM Internship competition.
The competition, open to Master’s and PhD students from Czech and Slovak universities, evaluated scientific projects across various disciplines, with Ing. Lenka Drotárová's and Ing. Tereza Havlíková's work earning top recognition.
Their winning projects are both part of WP3 of the GlaCerHub project, a cutting-edge initiative focused on advanced materials research. The scientific committee reviewed four competing projects and selected Lenka and Tereza as the standout candidates.
Lenka Drotárová’s Project
"Advances in Mimicking Native Bone Marrow Microenvironment Using 3D-Printed Calcium-Deficient Hydroxyapatite Scaffolds," focuses on improving the simulation of bone marrow environments. Her work is guided by her supervisor, Dr. Edgar Benjamin Montufar Jimenez, and supported by consultant Dr. Carolina Oliver Urrutia. This project promises to contribute to advancements in tissue engineering and biomaterials.
Tereza Havlíková
will be working in the field of transparent ceramics with her project, "Optimisation of the Preparation of Transparent/Translucent Ceramics with Garnet Structure." Her research aims to refine the production methods of garnet-structured ceramics, which have significant applications in optics and electronics. Her work is overseen by Ing. Daniel Drdlík, Ph.D., with additional support from consultant Ing. Katarína Drdlíková, Ph.D.
The Path Forward
Both students have been awarded part-time contracts with JCMM to carry out their research over the next 10 months. They will dedicate 0.3 FTE (Full-Time Equivalent) to their respective projects, culminating in a final report on their findings.
As students of CEITEC BUT, Lenka and Tereza are part of a dynamic research environment that fosters innovation and academic excellence. Their success in this competition is a testament to their hard work and the quality of mentorship provided by CEITEC BUT.
We eagerly anticipate the outcomes of these promising scientific endeavors and the contributions they will make to their respective fields.
A huge thanks to JCMM and project manager Michael Doležal for organising this fantastic opportunity!
