GlaCerHub's promising student Tereza Havlíková has succeeded in the 2024 Brno Ph.D. Talent competition!

This year the committee had to choose among 120 projects submitted by Ph.D. students from four selected Brno universities. The best 50 of them were sent to the final round, and only half of them will receive 360,000 CZK (approx. €14,400) for their development over the next three years.

This traditional competition (since 2009) is funded by the Brno City Municipality, is part of the Regional Innovation Strategy 5 of the South Moravian Region and is administered by JCMM, a GlaCerHub consortium partner.

Tereza has been successful with her project "High entropy transparent ceramics with photoluminescent properties" and aims to develop new promising functional materials in the field of yttrium aluminium garnet (YAG). She wants to create a high entropy functional garnet by partially replacing the yttrium with a suitable combination of rare earth elements - this will not even ensure the required entropy, but will also provide the photoluminescent properties.

Tereza will be concentrating on a very difficult preparation of this complex material, and will certainly be receiving a great deal of support from highly experienced senior researchers from CEITEC BUT and the FunGlass centre at TnUAD - both institutions where Tereza is a PhD Cotutelle student.

This unique combination is very helpful for her, while she has an access to both institutions' state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories.

We wish Tereza all the best!
